• Pleaser Reviews- 20/11/07

WOMAN: Album of the month. Lillystones: Pleaser, 5 out of 6 stars. For days of meditive reflection: What is the style? Melodious rock. What is that like? Like a coarse version of The Cardigans. What does Woman think? Woman loves the Lillystones for their catchy songs and feather-light and at the same time coarse sound. The lyrics are by the band’s lead singer and its bass guitarist. They write about their own personal experiences, but in such a way as to make them relevant to the rest of us. The songs deal with facts of life, which many of us grapple with: lopsided feelings in a relationship, feeling restricted, and the struggle to break out of our own worst patterns of behaviour. All in all an album that offers a beautiful musical experience and gives you something to think about.

FHM MAGAZINE, Lillystones: Pleaser, 4 out of 6 stars. Denmark’s Lillystones have existed in relative obscurity for years. That is a shame, for the band with lead singer Liv Beck’s beautiful vocal up front plays some shamelessly nice pop rock – with a bit of an edge. For instance check out “Move Away” and the super-catchy “I don’t get it” - if for no other reason, then because it is a rare thing to hear a band with a bass guitarist named Tove.

DOWNTOWN, Lillystones: Pleaser, 4 out of 6 stars. The Danish group the Lillystones play good, melodious garage rock with guitar riffs and pumping bass – and they do it well on their debut album Pleaser. The ten tracks contain good music and subtle details, and especially ”I don’t get it”, ”Jog Trot” and ”For Better” are potential hits. Sometimes, however the styles get mixed a bit too much, and although it is coarse and unspoiled, the album remains a little too anonymous and Liv Beck’s voice a little too soft for the coarser numbers. All in all, however, it is a good debut, which will no doubt appeal to you if you like melodious varied rock with a twist of such different bands as Carpark North and the Cardigans.
